The following list of a baker's dozen titles, limited to one film per director, is consciously meant to underscore the era's diversity. Russian films were slowly paced, consisting of long tableaus occasionally broken by an inserted closer view of an actor. In the 1910s and 1920s, Lev Kuleshov was a famous Russian filmmaker curious about how audiences responded to film. After spending the best part of two weeks in each other's company, we've really broken the back of it. The great director and theorist Lev Kuleshov always claimed that he and his associates learned the power of editing from American cinema. Originally known as the Trailer Park, the contest has been renamed after the Kulsehov Effect, a study in the impact of film editing on viewers by Russian film maker Lev Kuleshov in the 1920s. The inevitable day eventually comes in film school in which one learns the famed and much-debated Kuleshov Effect. A collection of links, fun and serious, on film and culture, to start the week. Lev Kuleshov was a Russian filmmaker and media theorist in the 1920's who looked at how the audience read film.
